Oceanfront Residence - Orcas Island, WA
Doug and Suzanne Nichols selected waterfront property on Orcas Island on which to design and constructed their permanent residence. This single-level home has three bedrooms, a large home studio, and attached three-car garage. The home has south facing commanding views of Obstruction pass and its ever changing marine activities.
The design of this home is based on a single-pitch roof that is both simple and cost effective, with the higher edge of the roof paralleling the oceanfront. Colors and materials were kept simple to allow the beautiful outdoors to be the center of attention.
Materials for this home were selected for their economy and durability. Flooring is engineered white oak planks. Windows are cost conscious but durable vinyl. The roofing is painted metal and the siding is finger-jointed cedar. Exterior decks are a composite material with stainless steel railings.
